Selectively chosen donors of kidney, experience no adverse affects on renal function, according to the study.

Previous researches have already mentioned that, people who donate kidney have no significant effect on the kidney function or survival, lead researcher Dr. Hassan N. Ibrahim said.

Researchers analyzed the data of 3,698 kidney donors from 1963 to 2007, to examine the long term safety. In 255 donors operated in 2003, researchers evaluated their GFR (glomerular filteration rate) also referred as 24 hours urinary creatinine clearance test, blood pressure and quality of life.

The normal range of GFR in healthy human is 90 to 120 mL/min and result values below 60, express renal dysfunction while value less than 15 express complete renal failure. Albumin in urine is another indication of kidney dysfunction.

There was no significant variation in the lab tests and survival between donors and non-donors, researchers reported. In addition, chronic diseases of kidney were more common in non-donors: 268 vs.180 cases per million per year.

Older age and greater body mass index (BMI) was linked to the high blood pressure and lesser GFR on enduring follow-up. On the contrary, long time after kidney donation didn’t link to GFR reduction and hypertension. Though, the slight decrease in albuminuria has been noticed.

LDL Cholesterol: A broken Yardstick to measure cardiac risk

Almost 75 percent patients hospitalized for cardiac arrest showed normal cholesterol levels, far away from the risk of cardiovascular trouble, a nationwide study reported.

LDL cholesterol, in other words “bad” cholesterol, accumulates to form plaques that ultimately block arteries. Values evaluated by U.S. National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute are 130 milligrams per deciliter for healthy people and 70 milligram per deciliter for those who have high risk factors such as obesity, smoking and hypertension and diabetes.

But the collected data of 137,000 cardiac arrest patients, from 2000 to 2006, showed that, about three-quarter had bad cholesterol level below 130 at the time of hospitalization, while 17.6 percent had LDL levels below 70.

Women 4 times more apt to develop Pulmonary Hypertension

The risk of developing a debilitating and potentially lethal lung disorder called pulmonary hypertension is four times higher in women than in men, a new study says.

Pulmonary hypertension occurs due to high blood pressure in those arteries that supply blood to the lungs. In this condition the arteries that feed the lungs constrict and decrease the supply of oxygenated blood to circulate throughout the body. Usually, people feel tired and short of breath and tired because of that condition.

Dr. Adaani E. Frost, from the Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston, led that study and he and his team looked at data from the REVEAL registry that included more than 2,300 patients, then they compared it with the data they received from the U.S. National Institute of Health, a French registry and another large U.S. registry from one medical centre.
