Selectively chosen donors of kidney, experience no adverse affects on renal function, according to the study.

Previous researches have already mentioned that, people who donate kidney have no significant effect on the kidney function or survival, lead researcher Dr. Hassan N. Ibrahim said.

Researchers analyzed the data of 3,698 kidney donors from 1963 to 2007, to examine the long term safety. In 255 donors operated in 2003, researchers evaluated their GFR (glomerular filteration rate) also referred as 24 hours urinary creatinine clearance test, blood pressure and quality of life.

The normal range of GFR in healthy human is 90 to 120 mL/min and result values below 60, express renal dysfunction while value less than 15 express complete renal failure. Albumin in urine is another indication of kidney dysfunction.

There was no significant variation in the lab tests and survival between donors and non-donors, researchers reported. In addition, chronic diseases of kidney were more common in non-donors: 268 vs.180 cases per million per year.

Older age and greater body mass index (BMI) was linked to the high blood pressure and lesser GFR on enduring follow-up. On the contrary, long time after kidney donation didn’t link to GFR reduction and hypertension. Though, the slight decrease in albuminuria has been noticed.

Donors have no considerable change in their quality of life and even have better quality than the general population, researchers explained.

Still, findings of the current study “could encourage the expansion of the donor pool, but cautious optimism is warranted.” Dr. Hassan N. Ibrahim said.

Almost 75 percent patients hospitalized for cardiac arrest showed normal cholesterol levels, far away from the risk of cardiovascular trouble, a nationwide study reported.

The finding indicate towards the need to change the current threshold value of the cholesterol level, said study author Dr. Gregg C. Fonarow

“The LDL cholesterol level at which people have heart attacks shouldn’t be considered as normal,” Fonarow said. Yardstick

LDL cholesterol, in other words “bad” cholesterol, accumulates to form plaques that ultimately block arteries. Values evaluated by U.S. National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute are 130 milligrams per deciliter for healthy people and 70 milligram per deciliter for those who have high risk factors such as obesity, smoking and hypertension and diabetes.

But the collected data of 137,000 cardiac arrest patients, from 2000 to 2006, showed that, about three-quarter had bad cholesterol level below 130 at the time of hospitalization, while 17.6 percent had LDL levels below 70.

“With LDL levels from 100 to 130, people may feel risk free,” Fonarow said. “In this study, there was nothing normal about having an LDL reading of 100.”

Cholesterol is only one aspect in heart attack, Fonarow said. Risk increase with age, especially for males and who have had a family history.

“The positive thing is that, 80 percent of the risk factors are controllable,” Fonarow said. “We can’t change our family history, age or sex, but what we can do is to keep our blood pressure low, exercise and change our lifestyle in that way which has minimum risks.”

Obesity trend is growing day by day not only in U.S. but all around the world.

Steroids use to gain some superficial health benefits only for a short span of time is not a new thing from last five decades. But to buy steroids and use them in terms of health benefits is not an easy task. Especially, in the condition when it has imposed with charge in case of possession.

Though, steroids are beneficial but they have some restrictions as well. Steroids are drug of choice in the HIV infected, cancer and in renal impairment patients, where these become the only uttermost choice.

If we implement the old saying, ‘excess of everything is bad,’ on the steroid use we can exactly comprehend the meaning. The important aspect is the use of steroid than its purchase or possession.

If you have decided to enhance your muscle mass via using steroids, you should get complete guideline and pros and cons of the steroid use. The sale of steroids is legal only in fifty countries but also required a prescription. Online purchase of drugs is also a legal act.

PHYSICAL & PSYCHOLOGICAL PERILS

There concern of possible serious health problems associated with the steroids abuse, is prevailing which includes both short and long-term side effects. The short-term adverse effects are reversible in men with discontinuation of steroid use.

Masculinizing effects in women are irreversible even after the discontinuation, which include deepening of the voice, excessive hair growth on all over the body, enlarged clitoris. The long-term side effects of steroid abuse are still unknown.

However, it is hypothesized that it must have adverse effect on the cardiovascular system, renal impairment and steroid dependency.

Physical side effects

High cholesterol levels in blood serum.

Severe acne

Baldness (specially in men)

Fluid retention

Hypertension

Liver disorders

Sexual & reproductive disorders:

Psychological side effects

Mood swings even madness

Impaired judgment

Depression

Extreme irritability

Hostility and aggression

Some of the oral steroids can cause serious damage to the liver, as steroids have meant for the intramuscular use. Orally administered steroids include Dianabol, Anadrol, Anavar, Winstrol and many more. The oral dosage should not exceed the recommendations and usage period, above than 6 months, could be harmful.

The study has been published in the Nov.4 issue of Neurology and it says that Alzheimer’s patients with diabetes have two times higher chances to die sooner that the people with dementia condition but without diabetes. Similarly, those with Alzheimer’s and hypertension have two-and-a-half times more chances to die sooner than the Alzheimer’s patients with normal blood pressure.

Yaakov Stern, who authored the study, says in an American Acdeamy of Neurology news release: “Different studies say that the average life span of someone diagnosed with Alzheimer’s can be anywhere between three to nine years and for that person and their caregiver every minute is precious. There are controllable factors that can drastically affect how long that person can survive.”

In this study, more than 300 people were involved and it also found that after Alzheimer’s diagnosis Hispanics live longer than withes or blacks. The researchers found that Hispanic lived eight years after diagnosis, blacks five years and non-Hispanic whites about four years.

But the results were no longer significant after adjusting gender and other factors.

“These findings are not significant, but they are somewhat intriguing and further study is required to find whether race affects Alzheimer’s survival time.” Stern added

Pulmonary hypertension occurs due to high blood pressure in those arteries that supply blood to the lungs. In this condition the arteries that feed the lungs constrict and decrease the supply of oxygenated blood to circulate throughout the body. Usually, people feel tired and short of breath and tired because of that condition.

Dr. Adaani E. Frost, from the Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston, led that study and he and his team looked at data from the REVEAL registry that included more than 2,300 patients, then they compared it with the data they received from the U.S. National Institute of Health, a French registry and another large U.S. registry from one medical centre.

The researchers noticed that in the United States, that the condition affects four times more women than men. Similarly, most of the time it strikes people aged 48 and above.

The researchers find that there is more awareness among doctors of pulmonary hypertension, but the time frame from when symptoms first develop to diagnosis were increased by 10 months.

The study has been presented at the American College of Chest Physicians annual meeting, in Philadelphia on Wednesday.
