The US Food and Drug Administration have taken new charges to control the use and release of analgesics containing Propoxyphene.
Drugs like Darvon and Darvocet contains this chemical as its center bond and its overdose can result to be fatal.
The FDA is thus now on the prowl to control the release and use of these drugs. Every now or then there comes analgesics in the market which spread unregulated unless reports of fatal damage come to public concern.

The U.S. FDA reaffirmed its stance that high level of LDL or “bad cholesterol,” is key risk factor for heart diseases such as heart attack, stroke etc, and reduction in LDL cholesterol lowers the risk of these diseases.
The agency was reviewing of data from ENHANCE, a trial, which was comparing Zocor (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor), a drug inhibit the production of cholesterol in the liver, in combination to Vytorin with Zetia (ezemtimibe), which limits the cholesterol absorption.
Preliminary results from ENHANCE had shown that there was no considerable difference in the thickness of the walls of the blood vessels of the neck. Though, the LDL cholesterol reduction, in patients with Vytorin compared to Zocor was significant.

Food and drug Administration have granted approval to two new zero-calorie sweeteners made by the Coca-Cola Company and PepsiCo, opening the channel for new products.
Cargill, already marketing the low calorie sweetener Truvia from the Coca-Cola Company, said that, legal notification of approval had been delivered to the company from F.D.A. with no objection certificate to the product, calling it “generally recognized as safe.”
