The term obesity is associated with overweight individuals. It is basically an epidemic problem of abnormal accumulation of neutral body fat as compared to body size. It has become more prevalent in young age especially children now a days. Children are heavier today than they were 20 years ago.

The overweight children looks very cute but these cute children are actually over nourished and unhealthy individuals. The incidence of childhood obesity is increasing especially in developing countries with unhealthy lifestyles.

A recent study has shown that one out of every 7 low income families have preschoolers that are obese.  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports state that preschoolers are more affected with epidemic obesity in lower income family brackets.This health hazard in the United States has more to do with improper nourishment coming with the stress and really poor condition of health.

The new government reports circulate concern but also show that the level has decreased in the last few years. This report sites that the level of childhood obesity went to 12.4% in poor families in 1998. Then it went up to 14.5% in 2003. But 2008 it only went up to 14.6% which is of course a good sign of improvement.

Sodexo is determined to change the rate of childhood obesity from US with their emphasis on knowledge on nutrition, emphasis on nutritious food and local grown, organic produce use.

The company offers to supply food that bears no more than 35% fat in any of its products. This way it envisions cutting off the unnecessary calories for a child.

The company sees that childhood obesity can be linked with the extensive use of junk food in a child’s life. There are 470 US school districts that are now being served by Sodexo which are all going to see the face of changes here.
