A new research has found that long term use of marijuana can increase the probability of an individual of developing the most aggressive Testicular cancer in his body. The intake of Marijuana can increase 70 percent risk of cancer.

The risk is basically to those individuals who are in a regular habit of using this Marijuana or to those who starts using this at early ages or in adolescence. Most of the individuals have this risk at the ages of 20s or 30s.

Some studies reveal that cancer is caused when Marijuana is correlated with the use of alcohol and habit of smoking. But till now it has been proved that Marijuana can independently cause cancer.

More discussion about health issues is required with teens

 

The conversation between physicians and adolescents about health behaviors is very poor, far away from the recommendations, study concluded.

“Preventive measure is the most important part of quality primary care for adolescents,” Dr. Sally Adams said. Most of the diseases, which cause death in adolescents, can be prevented. In addition, “the health and lifestyle behaviors established during youth have long-lasting health effects through out the entire lifespan,” the researchers indicated.

Strategies have already been made by national agencies and professional organizations that recommend “all adolescents must have a confidential visit annually in which primary doctor screen and counsel teenagers’ for multiple risk behaviors.”

New Addiction trend in U.S. teens

 

With the decrease of marijuana and alcohol use, the abuse of painkillers such as Vicodin and Oxycontin has increased in teens, according to a new report.

In U.S. improvement has been seen in many drug uses since late ’90s, but from last two years the down ward trend has stopped.

“In this need of the hour we have to put our maximum efforts, because although there have been improvements, but still the rates are higher with respect to international standards, and it’s the matter of the prime concern in terms of the risk to the health of our community in the long run,” Dr Wilson M. Compton said.

Report mentioned the use of prescription painkillers among adolescence remains high, with some 10 percent of seniors saying they used Vicodin and 4.7 percent said they used Oxycontin in the past year.

Psych disorders: majority of adults do not seek treatment

 

A report says that psychiatric disorders are becoming quite common among the US adults, but most of the adults do not seek any treatment.

In their study, the US researchers studied the data from those 5,000 respondents that participated in the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions and aged 19-25 years. Among them 2188 were college students while the rest of them were not in college.

The researchers found that 45.8 % college students and 47.7% of other adults met the criteria for having a psychiatric disorder, but those who were found with these disorders only 25% among them looked for treatment for a period of one-year.

Excessive drinking can increase dementia risk

 

Experts have warned that urgent action should be taken to avoid Britain heading for a dementia epidemic due to the Britons’ binge-drinking culture.

The study, which has been published, in the British Journal of Psychiatry, relates excessive drinking to a loss of brain tissue.

Dr James Warner and Dr Susham Gupta say that now people are drinking almost double what they used to in the 1960s and cheaper alcohol can also be a cause. They believe that the problem can be avoided by introducing tough laws.

Excessive drinking is related to a higher risk of dementia, as alcohol accounts for almost a tenth of all cases and heavy drinking is considered to contribute to almost a quarter.
