A Dutch study, which included 2100 older people, says that there is a possible link between abdominal fat and depression in older people.

In this study, these older people underwent screening for depression at the beginning of the study and their abdominal as well as overall body fat levels were also noticed at that time, and then after five years they were checked again.

After adjusting social, demographic and other weight change relevant factors, the researchers found that their depression linked to higher abdominal and visceral fat.

Nicole Vogelzangs, the lead author of the study, says: “We didn’t find the same sort of link between depression and overall obesity and the depressive symptoms in these older people were found particularly linked with abdominal fat.”

Trasylol is a drug that is used to control bleeding in patients going through cardiac surgical procedure, but a new study is doubtful about the safety of that drug.

In 2007, Trastoyl was removed from the market in the US, as it was the subject of controversy there.

In their study, researchers from Australia and Canada reviewed data received from 48 clinical trials. The researchers found that the patients who were given Trasylol had a higher death risk than the patients who were given other anti-bleeding drugs known as lysine analogues.

Radiation therapy or radiotherapy now can be used, safely to treat prostrate cancer in men suffering from AIDS, without any long-term adverse effect on CD4+ cell count or in the severity of viral infection. A small study suggested.

While treating patient of prostrate cancer with radiotherapy, it’s out of question to put HIV-infected patients on different machine than their HIV-negative counterpart, lead researcher Dr. Anthony M. Berson, from St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York, and colleagues said.

The study was published in the November issue of Urology. In the study 14 HIV-infected patients with prostate cancer were included which have undergone the treatment with external beam radiotherapy or brachytherapy or both. PSA level, CD4+ cell count, and intensity of viral infection were evaluated at baseline and again at latest follow-up, which ranged from 8 to 73 months.
